Lebanon
is a country plagued by landmines, remnant of the Civil War and the
conflict with Israel in 2006. The national demining program has used
Mine Detection Dogs successfully since 2001 to sniff out mines and
save lives in this heavily contaminated country. As the dogs reach
retirement age, additional dogs are needed. The
Marshall Legacy Institute and the International
Trust Fund for Humanitarian Demining have organized
the yearly "Legacy
of Hope" charity golf tournament to help Lebanon fulfill
this requirement. The goal of the tournament is to raise enough money to
acquire, train, certify and deliver up to 12 life-saving dogs to Lebanon in 2008.

MLI and the ITF wish to thank all our sponsors and participants for making the Legacy of Hope tournament a grand success!
The proceeds from the event far exceeded our expectations and have allowed us to pay for at least six mine-detection dogs that will be sent to Lebanon to team up with handlers assigned to the Lebanese National Demining Organization. The Legacy of Hope event generated more than $160,000 for the lifesaving dogs, with additional contributions expected over the next few weeks. <read more >
